Kane (on the left above) and Macey have made a journey most of us cannot imagine. Two years ago, they were abandoned as five-week-old puppies, along with two other siblings, in an open, makeshift dumpster in northwestern Arizona.

These kids wouldn*t have lasted long without food or water, exposed
to predators and the elements. Luckily,  the founder of a wonderful
humane society found the pups, rescued them, and found them a home.
Macy and Kane thought they'd now  be safe and loved  forever.

Fast forward a year and a half. That same humane society received
the siblings back as relinquishments, when their adopter claimed she
was moving to an apartment complex that didn*t allow pit bull mixes.

Sadly, these poor kids obviously had had little socialization and
probably had spent most of their adopted life in a back yard. Although
timid and unused to being indoors or walked on a leash, these
youngsters made remarkable progress in the loving hands of their
 second-time rescuers.

Fate dealt the pups another blow when shortly thereafter, due to circumstances beyond its control, the humane society found itself having to close its doors. In an effort to help the society find homes for its remaining animals, the Best Friends Animal Society in nearby Kanab, UT posted a plea for adopters on their website. When Roice-Hurst executive director Denise Lashmett and board president Elaine Johnson-Craig saw the plea on the Best Friends web site * just before their visit to the sanctuary for a workshop * they knew they had to help. So they offered to bring the hapless kids back to Clifton.
*We fell in love with this sweet brother and sister the minute we met them,* Johnson-Craig reports. *We kept them for an overnight before heading back, and they kissed, snuggled and nuzzled their way into our hearts!*
While Macey and Kane are settling into their safe and loving temporary home, their Roice-Hurst caregivers are hoping they*ll soon find their forever family. *We*re really trying to get these lovable siblings adopted together,* says Johnson-Craig. *Since bringing them to Roice-Hurst, they*re adapting to their surroundings and continue to be sweet and affectionate. Watching them romp together in the play yard, their beautiful brindle coats shining in the sun, brings all of us such joy. With a little training, they*ll be wonderful, fun and loyal pets.*
